There is a huge number of layoffs in the Indian edtech sector. According to the Economic Times, edtech startup Udayy shut down operations, laying off its whole crew of 100–200 individuals, while FrontRow laid off over 145 full-time and part-time employees this week.

Many edtech businesses are trying to adapt to the new offline learning boost as funding slows down and schools reopen following the pandemic.

Udayy had sufficient funds, but its business model didn’t work in the offline world, according to cofounder Saumya Yadav. She went on to say that because children didn’t have time for online learning and parents began requesting for refunds.

FrontRow, on the other hand, stated that the majority of the layoffs were from the business development and sales teams in order to increase efficiencies.

Due to decreasing demand for online education and lack of funding, startups such as Unacademy and Vedantu have laid off employees in recent months.

Byjus and Unacademy, two of India’s largest edtech companies, are beginning to expand into the offline learning industry and establishing physical centres around the country.

Byjus wants to expand to 500 offline locations, while Unacademy wants to enrol 15,000 students in its initial round of offline locations.
